Hake is a very underrated fish. It comes from the same family as Cod & Haddock and equally as versatile. The Spanish are big fans of Hake and the average annual consumption there is over 6kgs per person!
Hake flakes are smaller and more delicate than Cod, but they have a slightly sweeter taste. Wild stocks of Hake are very healthy now so it is also a very sustainable option too.
Hake (merluccius merluccius)
Remove all packaging. Place on a baking tray in the centre of a pre-heated oven 180°C/350°F/Gas mark 4 for 15-22 minutes. Adjust times according to your particular oven (for fan assisted ovens, cooking times should be reduced). Always ensure product is piping hot throughout before serving.
Do not exceed ‘use by’ date. Keep refrigerated below 5°C. Once opened, use immediately. If freezing, freeze on day of purchase and consume within one month. Defrost thoroughly and use within 24 hours. Once thawed do not re-freeze.
